The Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Autism and Learning Disabilities - Train the Co-Trainer (Expert by Experience) is a specialised three-day course tailored for individuals with lived experience of learning disabilities who aspire to become co-trainers. This training empowers participants to deliver essential educational sessions alongside a facilitator, leveraging their personal insights to enhance the overall impact of the training. By becoming a co-trainer, you will play a pivotal role in expanding the reach of this crucial training across Health & Social Care, fostering more inclusive and supportive environments for individuals with learning disabilities. This comprehensive course will cover all content from the standard 1-day training and prepare co-trainers to effectively deliver the material by: - Reviewing the core content of the Oliver McGowan Training, ensuring a solid understanding of key topics around learning disabilities, autism, person-centred care, and effective communication. - Developing co-training skills to help present information clearly and share personal experiences in a way that engages and educates participants. - Learning how to collaborate with facilitators, including leading group discussions, addressing questions, and creating a supportive, inclusive learning atmosphere. - Understanding the role of a co-trainer, ensuring consistency and maintaining the standardisation of the training curriculum. - Receiving coaching on how to handle sensitive topics, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity, and managing a diverse range of participants. To become a co-trainer, you should: - Have lived experience of having a learning disability, offering valuable perspectives that will enrich the training sessions. - Be open to sharing your experiences to help deepen the understanding of training participants, promoting empathy and better support practices. Cancellation Policy
This training is reliant on people with lived experience to co-train this session. This being said it is a requirement as part of this that we must co-deliver with an autistic person and a person with a learning disability. Should for what ever reason the co-trainer not be able to attend the session to co-deliver then we must cancel the training.
