HSE state that it is up to the organisation to determine what is reasonable for First Aid Cover, this will be determined on a number of factors, the size of the workplace, the number of people within workplace, including customers and outside contractors, the type of work that is carried out and the risk that work entails. For example if you are working in a typical office space across one floor and have 10 people working there, it may be reasonable to suggest 1 or 2 first aiders having completed the 1 day course. 2 people to allow for annual leave or absence, however why not have everyone trained where possible and have 1 appointed person to take responsibility over first aid at work? No, the HSE no longer approves first aid training and qualifications. Since 2013, businesses have had more flexibility in managing their provision of first aid in the workplace. It is now the employer's duty to ensure that any training provider selected for first-aid training is competent to deliver that training. If an organization claims to be HSE accredited or certified, it is not accurate as this no longer exists. All first aid training organizations should follow HSE recommendations and Resus Council training standards.

The main differences are the cost and the appearance of the certificate. We offer both accredited certificates and Northbrook Certificates. Accredited certificates are linked with the RQF (Regulated Qualification Framework), similar to other qualifications you may obtain. The content and training standards are exactly the same. Some organizations prefer accredited certificates because they go through an awarding body and are issued externally, which can make them slightly more expensive than certificates issued directly by us.
