Why Moving and Assisting Training Matters

Over 50% of care worker injuries stem from poor manual handling (HSE stats), risking harm to both staff and service users. This manual handling training ensures safe people handling, aligning with MHOR 1992, Care Act 2014, and CQC standards. From preventing falls in a care home to aiding mobility in a classroom, you’ll reduce risks, uphold dignity, and meet legal duties across settings.

What You’ll Learn

Dive into a comprehensive, one-day curriculum blending theory and hands-on practice:

  • Legislation and Guidelines: Master MHOR 1992, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Care Act 2014, LOLER 1998, Equality Act 2010, and CQC standards; follow employer protocols and Skills for Care guidance.

  • Anatomy and Physiology: Understand spine, joints, and muscles; learn how injuries occur and maintain proper posture.

  • Risk Management: Conduct formal and dynamic risk assessments using TILEO (Task, Individual, Load, Environment, Other); identify hazards and know when to pause for advice.

  • Safe Moving and Positioning: Promote dignity, autonomy, and consent; adapt to needs, communicate clearly, and avoid unsafe practices like dragging.

  • Equipment Use: Safely operate mobile hoists, slide sheets, wheelchairs, and more; perform pre-use checks and report defects per LOLER.

  • Role Responsibilities: Stay within training limits, escalate concerns, and document incidents accurately.

  • Practical Techniques: Demonstrate assisting to stand, sit, turn, or transfer; manage falls safely; use team handling with stability and smooth movements.

  • Communication and Teamwork: Use clear verbal/non-verbal cues; respect service user input; debrief after complex moves.

  • Managing Falls and Incidents: Respond to falls safely, assess before acting, and report to prevent recurrence.

  • Self-Care: Spot strain early, use correct techniques, and manage stress from handling tasks.

From care home transfers to school mobility support, practical drills ensure you’re ready.
