This course gives staff a clear and practical understanding of epilepsy and how to support individuals who experience seizures. Learners explore what epilepsy is, how seizures occur, and the different ways they may present. The course covers tonic-clonic seizures, focal seizures, and other common types, along with how to recognise early signs and respond safely.
The session explains how epilepsy can affect day to day living, including the emotional and physical impact, and highlights how good risk assessing and care planning can significantly improve safety and independence. Learners also gain awareness of prolonged seizures, status epilepticus, and the risks associated with SUDEP, helping staff understand when further action or medical support is required.
The course strengthens staff confidence in providing safe and effective support for individuals with epilepsy, ensuring care is informed, calm, and responsive.
